An Aloo Matar recipe that is a simple yet delicious Punjabi style peas and potato curry. I learnt this tangy and spiced aloo matar gravy recipe from my mother-in-law and make it so often. This aloo matar recipe is comforting homely curry best relished with some puri (Indian fried bread), roti or paratha.

  1. Take chopped onions, tomatoes, ginger and garlic in a grinder or blender jar.
  2. Without adding any water, grind or blend to a smooth paste and keep this ground paste aside.
  3. Firstly, in a pressure cooker heat 4 tsp oil and saute ½ inch cinnamon, 2 pods cardamom, 1 tsp kasuri methi, ½ tsp cumin till it turns aromatic.
  4. Now add in ½ tsp RUCHI turmeric, 1 tsp RUCHI red chilli powder and ½ tsp RUCHI coriander powder. saute on low flame for 30 seconds.
  5. Further add 1 onion and saute well.
  6. Additionally add 1 tsp RUCHI ginger garlic paste and saute well.
  7. now add 2 tomato and saute till the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  8. furthermore, add RUCHI dum aloo masala, add 2 potato cubed and 1 tsp salt.
  9. saute for a minute or more.
  10. further add ½ cup peas, 1 cup water and 1 green chilli.
  11. mix well and pressure cook for 3 whistles or till potato gets cooked well.
  12. once the pressure gets settled down, mash slightly adjusting consistency.
  13. add in ½ tsp garam masala and 2 tbsp coriander leaves. mix well.
  14. finally, serve aloo matar recipe with roti, kulcha or naan.
